Black Belt Global Venture Studio (BBV) Showcases Global Startups at Demo Day
On June 8, 2026, Black Belt Global Venture Studio (BBV), a program selected under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s SUTEAM initiative, hosted its Demo Day at Tokyo Innovation Base (TIB).
BBV is a venture studio program that integrates insights and methodologies from the University of Oxford’s Science of Startups (SoS) initiative. Leveraging research based on data from more than 21,000 startups and 25,000 founders, the program aims to foster startup creation and growth through a data-driven approach.
The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including investors, corporations, universities, support organizations, and overseas government agencies, creating opportunities for collaboration and investment between participants and startups from around the world.
The program featured an opening introduction to the SUTEAM initiative by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, followed by a keynote speech, "Decoding Startup Success," delivered by Professor Paul X. McCarthy, Co-Founder of the Science of Startups Initiative at the University of Oxford. The keynote highlighted research findings on how startup success is influenced not only by individual founders, but also by team composition and diversity.
The pitch session showcased 11 selected startups from Japan, Finland, the United States, Australia, India, and France, covering a wide range of sectors including semiconductors, space technology, artificial intelligence, climate tech, healthcare, and music technology.
During the networking session, selected startups engaged in active discussions with investors, corporations, and support organizations, leading to new opportunities for investment, business partnerships, and talent acquisition.
BBV will continue to leverage the insights of Science of Startups to advance data-driven startup support, contributing to the sustainable growth of Tokyo’s startup ecosystem.
