BBV Webinar Archive: What really drives startup success?

What really drives startup success?

At last week’s Black Belt Global Venture Studio (BBV) webinar — part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s SUTEAM initiative — we explored this question with Professor Paul X McCarthy who leads the Science of Startups research from Oxford University.

His team’s findings show that founder personality is up to 5× more predictive of startup success than external factors such as timing or market, and that only around 8% of people globally have personality traits aligned with successful founders.

Even more fascinating: the combination of founders matters most — much like harmony in an orchestra.

At BBV, we’re translating this cutting-edge research into practice to systematically build globally connected startups from Japan.
